100 years after Harriet Quimby did it, women fly across the Channel

My turn

“It was my turn at last. Everybody was expectant. I was eager to get into my seat and be off. My heart was not in my mouth,” said Harriet Quimby of her state of mind, minutes before taking off to make history in 1912.

On March 10, 2012, it will be the turn of hundreds of girls and women to experience flying in a smaller aircraft.

Girls are the majority over the Channel

Pilots from around the world will fly to Headcorn Aerodrome, England, and to Le Touquet Airport, France, with girls and women from their hometown on their first smaller aircraft flight. The communities around these airports will welcome these generous community-minded pilots and their daring passengers with enthusiasm as the locals did in 1912.

What fun!

Everyone will gather at each airport to learn about history, meet today’s Women Of Aviation, learn about aviation opportunities, enjoy local performances, and get a taste of the local culture and gastronomy.

Across the Channel, women will unify nations. Will you join us?
